Scooter News Canberra's scooter specialist has moved - After opening 11 years ago with just 4 Vespa PX200's, there were three other scooter models on the market. With more than 100 models available now we needed more room - so do drop in to 10 Botany Street (also in Phillip). The new shop opened on October 4. Access to the workshop is from behind Kennards Hire on Townsend St. The "Summer of Vespa" pricing has been extended to January 10. Also the Free Rego, CTP & Stamp Duty deal on the MP3 250 & 400 has been extended to the end of January 2009. The credit crisis has helped put an importer in trouble. Stoney Creek Powersports has entered voluntary administration and they are currently looking for a buyer for the business. Until a buyer is found the availablity of parts for the brands; Peugeot, TGB and Sachs are limited to stock currently in the warehouse. Aftermarket service parts are available; tyres - brakepads - and other service items are widely available for owners of these scooters. Supply of parts specific to models, such as panels, may be problematic. Vespa News: The new GrandTourismo Vespa is here! The Vespa GTS Super has a 278cc engine and comes in at $9990 plus on roads. Piaggio's MP3 wins Scooter of the year award for 2008! The 3 Wheeled scooters from the Piagggio factory have a large number of fans in Australia - The MP3 is only as wide as the XEvo 250 but the braking is fantastic and it may be the hardest motorcycle to crash ever produced with the two front wheels providing phenominal amounts of grip. The Gilera 500cc version of the MP3 is now available, they have been out of stock for a while as they have proven so popular. SYM scooters from Select Scoota have moved the prices on their scooters again. The prices dropped in July when the Aussie dollar was high, jumped a little in August and have now increased with the current shift in the AU$ fluctuations. See www.motorini.com.au/allprices to have a look at the prices in the range. New models from SYM scooters firstly - www.scoota.com.au are about to release a new 125cc retro model from the new SYM factory. Coming in at $2990 plus on roads the scooter will join the 125cc Orbit as a hugely tempting model for those with a budget. The most recent PIAGGIO is the X7, this is the latest model to carry the Euro 3 compliant fuel injected 250cc Quasar engine first released in the Vespa GTS. This scooter carries the smallest pricetag for any model with this fantastic engine at $6990. Take the XEvo 250 and squash it legthwise (think Mercedes AClass) and you have a nimble but slightly tall city scooter with highway capability. For a full list of models on the Australian market see www.motorini.com.au/allprices There is a new scooter club in Canberra - The Swarm, with an obvious reference to the Vespa/wasp, is meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6pm at All Bar Nun in O'Connor. Aimed at Vespa riders and invited riders of other scooters, information on the swarm is posted at www.theswarm.com.au and the rides are currently posted at the www.motorini.com.au/club.html page. |
